Grappling with how to work with patients with physical complaints, pain, healthy anxiety or somatization? Wondering how to deepen the emotional work with intellectualized patients? Working with trauma?
Somatic psychotherapy offers powerful interventions and a solid theoretical framework that integrates smoothly with psychodynamic and behavioral approaches.
I offer a ten-week course on Somatic Psychotherapy which offers an overview of theory and practice, providing foundational readings for discussion and opportunities for in vivo clinical practice of somatic interventions as well as clinical application through case presentation and discussion.
The course is capped at eight clinicians to insure rich discussion and facilitate building a container to safely explore clinical material. Each meeting is 90-minutes. Each participant also meets with me one-on-one for more in-depth supervision at the end of the course.
Courses run in the fall, winter, and spring. To register for an upcoming course or be added to the waitlist, please contact me.
Clinicians who participated in the past described the experience as “utterly transformative” and “an intensive and immersive crash course” in somatic therapy.
“This was a wonderful introduction to somatic therapy and opened my mind to a whole new way to conceptualize working with patients (particularly those who are struggling with anxiety or have a trauma history).”
Allison Schwartz, PsyD
“For someone that is curious about somatic psychotherapy and feels drawn to it but doesn’t know where to start, this group is perfect. It’s practical too – you can start trying out things in your practice with your clients without having to do a whole training program…Claire’s case presentation each week helped me see how things worked in practice, and made the reading really come alive through examples. I also got a lot out of the short videos Claire made for us each week presenting the material for that week in such a clear, cogent manner.”
Lauri Nagel, LCSW
“Dr. Haiman has a highly skilled presentation style. She presents the material in a captivating manner and is able to explain complex ideas in accessible ways. Additionally, she is able to tailor her style to respond well to clinicians who are both seasoned as well beginning trainees. Our staff was engaged throughout the training and asked thought-provoking questions. A number of participants have approached me since the training and discussed the training with high regard. In each of these scenarios, the attendees described with eagerness how they have implemented techniques and interventions described in the training. I would strongly recommend this training for any group of clinicians.”

“I really valued the focus on both theory and application of somatic practices – it really pushed forward my own practice in tangible ways. I really benefited from the case vignettes to illustrate concepts from readings. I loved the readings and the videos really helped summarize them in ways that added to my understanding. This is an excellent way to learn or deepen a theoretical framework of body based practices and truly begin to develop a way to integrate these practices with clients that acknowledges their experiences in a non-shaming way. This isn’t just a group for working with trauma, but more of a group to work with the nervous system, so its applications feel very broad.”
Meredith Carlisle, LCSW
“It’s a great introduction to somatic work that doesn’t feel like it has an agenda. The design is condensed and well organized while being expansive and porous in its approach. This leaves room to discover a personal connection to the theory and practice.”
Camila de Onís, LCSW
“You are going to get a good foundation; Claire knows her stuff and is very good at setting a welcoming tone in the class.”
Jennifer Kelly, PsyD
“Dr. Haiman is a deeply thoughtful instructor who held the group space very well. The group offered a chance to think clinically using the lens of somatic work which felt validated by rich reading material that explained somatic works merits and benefits. The group was a great blend of clinical material and more grounding practice.”
