Psychotherapy

Treatment is focused reducing pain or symptoms and facilitating emergence from old patterns that may be keeping you stuck.  Our goal is expansion, so that you move from getting-by to truly flourishing.

Reducing Pain: You may be feeling a lot of distress, as people often are when they seek treatment. In that instance, our first objective is to decrease your suffering. We do this by actively drawing on existing resources in your life, and expanding this pool if you do not have enough support. We also draw on the internal support of the body. Using mindfulness, we can find and develop internal resources for managing pain, whether that be physical or emotional.

Getting Unstuck: The other important component of therapy is breaking old patterns. When something scares us we tend to distance ourselves from it, starting a vicious cycle of shrinking from the world and decreasing our ability to be present as we become cramped, literally and figuratively, in defensive postures. We may find ourselves stuck in old patterns that no longer suit our current realities.

Flourishing: Resolving these old patterns frees us up to pursue what we truly want.  Often this is a new question: What do I want?  What would it mean to embody that fully?  We devote time to intentionally exploring and envisioning this so you can move from just getting-by to flourishing.
